Deep Cycle AGM batteries Victron cycle-proof 12V AGM batteries VRLAtechnology VRLA is the abbreviation for Valve Regulated Lead Acid, i.e. the battery cells are valve-regulated and gas resulting from overcharging or a cell fault can escape through a safety valve. VRLA Batteries have excellent leakage resistance and can be used in any position. They are completely maintenance-free. Sealed(VRLA) AGM batteries AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat. In this type of battery, the electrolyte is absorbed by capillary action in a fleece made of fine glass fibers. In our book "Always Electricity" we pointed out that AGM batteries are preferably suitable for short-term high current requirements (engine starts). Lowself-discharge Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for long periods without intermediate charging due to the use of lead-calcium grids and high-purity materials. The self-discharge rate is less than 2% per month at 20°C. It doubles each time the temperature rises by 10°C. When stored in a cool place, Victron VRLA Batteries can be stored for up to one year without intermediate charging. Excellentbehavior after deep discharge Victron VRLA Batteries have excellent recovery behavior even after prolonged deep discharge. However, it should be noted that frequent and prolonged deep discharges can also cause irreversible damage to Victron Batteries. Discharge behaviorof the battery The nominal capacity of Victron Batteries refers to a discharge time of 20 hours, i.e. to a discharge current of 0.1 C. A lower discharge current increases the discharge rate. A lower discharge current increases the effective capacity, and conversely it decreases with a higher discharge current (see table in the data sheet). The AGM series from Victron is characterized by excellent behavior at high discharge currents.
