PSS seal 1 1/4' Shafts, 1 3/4' Stern tubes

The PSS shaft seal type A is a mechanical seal. The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is fixed to the front of the bellows with Hose clamps and the rear end of the bellows is fixed over the star tube and secured with Hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor is mounted on the Shafts in front of the carbon flange. The stainless steel rotor is used to compress the bellows before the rotor is secured to the Shafts with set screws. This compression (preload) ensures constant contact between the two flat sides of the stainless steel rotor and the carbon flange. This allows the PSS shaft seals to compensate for the variable forward and backward movement caused by the propeller thrust. The carbon flange is overbored to the shaft diameter so that it can 'float' around the shaft, compensating for most misalignment and Float problems. The stainless steel rotor is sealed against the shaft by two O-rings set into the bore of the collar. These O-rings rotate with the Shafts and stainless steel rotor and are not subject to wear during operation. Temperature limits: 5°F to 225°F (-15°C to 107°C) Pressure limits: 15 PSI (1 BAR) Shaft speed limits: 10,000 rpm.
