Search and rescue transmitters are mandatory for vessels over 300BRT. Previously, radar-based devices were used, but current regulations now allow AIS-SARTs to be used, which has many advantages. The position of the lifeboat or person in distress is transmitted to and graphically displayed on AIS devices such as Class A MKD (Minimum Keypad and Displays), ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems) or chart plotters.&nbsp,

Once activated, it sends the target data to any Class A or B transponder or AIS receiver to guide rescuers to the scene of the accident.
